This is your first published novel. What brought you to writing fiction? When I was a kid, I wrote a bunch of short stories, all of which went unpublished. I shifted my focus to novels when I was 23 or 24. Between then and the time I turned 30, I wrote two. Neither of them saw daylight. They were pretty bad. My third novel came fairly close to being publishable, I think, but didn't quite clear the final hurdle.
