摘要

Listening to members of the user community is important-even if it's hard to accept what they have to say. Then we need to act on what is heard. Libraries make great laboratories for student projects. Academic librarians are occasionally approached by a faculty member or student group that wants to use the library for an academic project. Students seek to shoot video or photos using the library as a backdrop, survey library staff, or display art exhibits. Excepting the extreme requests, like the students who asked to go up on our roof to get an aerial photo of their art project ("Sure, I am certain our risk manager will have no problem with that"), we like to say yes because doing so supports our students' academic success. On occasion it may present an opportunity for librarians to learn something important about their students and the library.
