For more than ten years, Romance Writers of America® (RWA) has provided grants to scholars conducting serious research in popular romance fiction. The 2015 winners are: Jonathan Andrew Allan, Brandon University, Winnipeg, Man., for "The Optimism of Happily Ever After," an exploration of romance's happy, or satisfactory, ending via Affect Theory. Beth Driscoll, University of Melbourne; Lisa Fletcher, University of Tasmania; and Kim Wilkins, University of Queensland, ail Australia, for "The Genre World of Romance in 21st Century Australia," a study of the romance genre Down Under through in-depth case studies of three authors in different stages of their careers. Jessica Taylor, University of Toronto, for "Professional Business Women: Romance Writers, Feminism and 'Women's Work,'" an examination of the ways in which romance writers choose to define their work and its value and how they negotiate the relationship between the artistic/creative and professional/commercial aspects.
