摘要

Taking its title from the opening line of the Beatles' psychedelic masterpiece "Strawberry Fields Forever," this charming, whimsical comedy-drama by Spanish writer and director Trueba relates the tale of a middle-aged, Beatles-obsessed schoolteacher who picks up two teenage runaways while embarking on a 1966 road trip to Almeria, Spain, to try to meet John Lennon on the How I Won the War film set. Awkwardly avuncular Antonio (Javier Camara), rebellious but bighearted Juanjo (Francesc Colomer), and precocious but aimless Belen (Natalia de Molina) are kindred spirits who forge increasingly complex relationships with one another as well as the small-town denizens they encounter on their journey of self-discovery through the Spanish countryside. Veteran musicians Pat Metheny and Charlie Haden provide a beautifully spare acoustic jazz score that, while pleasant and appealing, doesn't always fit the film's mostly energetic pace. VERDICT This modest but satisfying road movie features gorgeous pastoral cinematography, sharp writing, and colorful but realistic characters portrayed by convincing actors. It will easily appeal to all indie film enthusiasts, even viewers who don't share Antonio's Beatles mania.
