摘要

Deep in the Canadian wilderness near the beginning of winter, a veteran archaeologist is flown in to assess an amazing discovery that could upend the understanding of human development in the Americas. The team of excavators have uncovered substantial stone edifices that predate even the Clovis culture, yet structurally they appear more akin to Mayan or Aztec temples. The joy of discovery quickly turns to despair as workers begin to suffer from strange mental and physical maladies that lead to casual dismemberments and murder. As the camp slowly freezes in place without communication or the ability to get help, a final frightful vision begins to be shared by some of the men of a deer that walks like a man on the edge of the woods, whispering darkness. VERDICT Black Mountain Side pulls solid low-budget gold from the rich and all-too-believable fright vein of isolationist horror, whereby otherworldly forces pick away at the social fabric of a sequestered group by hiding within the team, turning once tight-knit communities into warring, mistrustful factions.
