Mapping the library for increased user engagement

For library users to be fully engaged, it is important for libraries to be aware of the patrons' desire to access and use print while being inextricably tied to their mobile devices. By mapping the library, patrons can have their face "buried" in a smartphone or tablet, but using the Google Maps app they get a sense of the print resources in front of them. Where interest may not be sparked by simply walking through the stacks, knowing that a call number is laid onto a floor plan may be just the impetus they need to pull a book off the shelves. Indoor mapping with Google Maps can successfully tie library patrons to collections through their mobile devices and increase library accessibility and usability.
