Die Debatte über den EU-Beitritt der Türkei in Deutschland und Frankreich

The article draws a comparison between the German and the French debate about the European Union entry of Turkey. It does so by analysing the evolution of public opinion and the party disputes in the two countries. Moreover the article examines the line of argumentation of proponents and opponents of EU-Enlargement to Turkey. Special attention is given to the political patterns and the conceptions of Europe which appear on both sides of the Rhine. It is shown that these conceptions are variously and cannot be associated distinctively with national specificities or the world views of party families.
