This article will explore the apparent colonization of outdoor leisure in its holistic form through sport in the context of neo-liberalism in Britain. Delving further, it will examine how this internal colonization can be viewed as an essentially reductionist approach designed to assimilate or remove dissenting groups, the impact of which may be to diminish the strength of holistic outdoor leisure (HOL) as a mechanism of successful cultural change for SGC in British Western society. The discussion will include an exploration of the inequality in funding, the level of exposure in social discourse and the overall social support for a diversity of outdoor leisure forms. An examination of the links between neo-liberalist ideology, which underpins British culture and the lionizing of sport development at the expense of other forms of leisure, will be afforded.
