Japan's Toray Industries is spending roughly $264 million to expand its synthetic leather output in Italy in a bid to meet growing demand from carmakers. The factory in question, in Nera Montoro, Temi, central Italy, will double its annual capacity of Alcantara brand material to nine million square metres within the next five years. The move marks one of Toray's biggest ever investment in its fibres business.
