Pakistan must meet new regulations

The president of Sialkot's Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Majid Raza Bhutta, has said Pakistan's tanners, leather manufacturers and exporters must improve their standards if they are to compete globally. He believes investment in technology must increase and that international standards must be met. Bhutta said traceability and transparency across the full supply chain of leather products coming out of Pakistan were essential and need to comply with new standards, as introduced by REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) and Leather Working Group. Failure to do so, he added, would result in a "major blow" to Pakistani leather exports.
