Telmex Chile unveils mobile WiMAX in the country

Telmex Chile has unveiled mobile WiMAX (802.16e) service in the country. The Chilean unit of Telmex said that its cellular WiMAX network would be launched in different stages. The network s coverage is likely to blanket 98 percent of the nation s population by mid-2008. The firm s fixed-WiMAX service already covers 98 percent of Chile s population. Although Telemex s fixed-WiMAX service was initially targeted at the SME segment, the buyout of satellite television firm ZAP TV prompted the company to launch mobile-based WiMAX services for residential users.
