Movistar Colombia to unveil UMTS in the second quarter

Movistar Colombia said that it plans to unveil its UMTS services by the end of the second quarter of 2008. The telecommunications operator plans to use the 3G network to provide cellular broadband services to businesses, firms, homes, and individuals in the country. Movistar Colombia said that the new network is expected to offer data transmission speeds of 512Kbps-2Mbps, interactive multimedia services, videoconferencing, mobile TV services, realtime audio/video transmission, and e- mobile banking, among others. By the end of 2008, the operator plans to have 3G deployed in cites like Medellin, Bogota, Cali, Cartagena, Barranquilla, Bucaramanga, and Cucuta. It already provides 3G in Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay.
