America Movil to merge Argentine opera-tions under 'Claro'

Mexico-based telecom service provider America Movil (AM) plans to merge its mobile and fixed-line business in Argentina under the Claro banner this month. Claro would become the first service provider of Argentina to launch Internet and telephone services under one brand over its own infrastructure. AM began the process of unifying its Telmex Argentina landline unit with its Claro mobile division in August. In July, AM had bought Telmex's parent firm, Telmex Internacional.
