Maxcom may be up for sale

Mexican alternative operator Maxcom is reportedly up for sale, according to Bloomberg, which claims that according to two people with knowledge of the situation,n the telco is seeking bids from European telecoms giants Telefonica and France Telecom. It is believed that Barclays Capital is currently running an auction process for Maxcom, although it has refused to confirm whether this is the case, as the process is not public. With other bidders for the company likely to include local competitors such as Megacable, Axtel, Alestra, and Grupo Televisa, the report claims that Maxcom will look for offers next month, with any deal thought to be worth in excess of US$133 million, the current market value of the company.
