Hondutel looking for strategic partners

Honduran incumbent fixed and mobile operator Empresa Hondurena de Telecomunica-ciones (Hondutel) is said to be on the lookout for new investors to provide much-needed capital to improve its networks and services. Hondutel corporate strategies manager David Barahona said that the company needs between US$200 million and US$300 million in investment to be competitive at a national scale. The investment will include the development and installation of Internet connections in 27 cities across the country. These alliances might become reality in the short term, as the board of Hondutel is allowed to offer alternative telephony services, as it may be the only way for this company to recover.
