More than two million Guatemalan mobile users have failed to register their SIM cards ahead of the 8 October 2016 deadline stipulated by the Superintendence of Telecommunications (Superintendencia de Telecomunicaciones, SIT), La Prensa reports. The total is broken down as follows: 1,444,067 for market leader Tigo; 448,917 for Claro; and 291,261 for Movistar, for a total of 2,184,245 SIM cards. It is believed that the unregistered lines will be temporarily suspended, rather than cancelled altogether.
