5G Americas, the industry trade association and voice of 5G and LTE for the Americas, today made the following statement regarding the commencement of the U.S. FCC 600 MHz incentive auction. Chris Pearson, President of 5G Americas stated, "Last night, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) commenced Auction 1000, the world's first voluntary two sided auction of broadcast spectrum. 5G Americas applauds the FCC's hard work bringing about this historic event, on time and on schedule. As 5G Americas - the Voice for 5G and LTE in the Americas - has long advocated, getting more licensed spectrum to the market for mobile broadband is critical for the U.S. to maintain its lead in delivering high-speed, innovative wireless applications to subscribers. The U.S. led 4G adoption globally, in part because of the FCC's important auctions of licensed spectrum. The U.S. can maintain its leadership by continuing to provide licensed spectrum for the mobile wireless industry. Low-band, mid-band and high-band spectrum will all be needed for today's mobile wireless technologies as well as 5G in the future."
