Uruguay's Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining has approved the terms and conditions for the planned auction of spectrum in the 700MHz and 1700MHz/2100MHz (AWS) frequency bands. TeleSemana reports that a total of 155MHz of spectrum will be on offer, divided into 16 individual lots. Of the total up for allocation, 100MHz will be available to private operators (five lots of 10MHz in the 700MHz range and five blocks of 10MHz in the 1700MHz/2100MHz band) and 55MHz will be reserved for state-owned incumbent Administracion Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (Antel), broken down as 40MHz of 700MHz frequencies and 15MHz in the AWS band. The spectrum licences will be awarded for a period of 20 years and the winners will have 24 months to roll out their networks.
