Chile resumes debate on creation of Supertel' regulator

Chile has resumed talks on creating a new Superintendency of Telecommunications, or "Supertel", around 6 years after it last contemplated the project, reports Telesemana. According to a proposal discussed by the Chilean Senate's Transportation and Telecommunications Committee, Supertel's functions would encompass the supervision of telecommunications services, the protection of user data, the grant and modification of licenses as well as administrative measures and the issue of fines for any breaches of existing laws and regulations qoverning the sector.
