Telcel acquires 50MHz block of 3.5GHz spectrum from Axtel

America Movil (AM)-backed mobile giant Telcel has reportedly agreed to acquire a 50MHz block of 5G-suitable 3.5GHz spectrum from domestic fixed line operator Axtel. According to El Economista, the transaction was submitted to the Federal Telecommunications Institute (Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones, IFT) in May and has already been given the green light. In January this year Telcel took receipt of a separate 50MHz block of 3.5GHz spectrum, which was previously owned by its fixed line sister company Telmex. That deal comprised 3450MHz-3500MHz frequencies, while the Axtel spectrum includes the 3500MHz-3550MHz band. US-owned mobile rival AT&T holds frequencies in the 3550MHz-3600MHz band, meanwhile.
