13.85% of Movistar user base migrated onto AT&T network

Telefonica Moviles Mexico (Movistar) has confirmed that 3.7 million mobile users - around 13.85% of its total customer base - have been migrated onto the AT&T Mexico network to date, as a result of the 'last mile wireless capacity access agreement' signed last November. According to El Economista, the first operating regions to benefit from the switch are Regions 1, 3 and 4, which include the states of Baja California, Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Durango, Coahuila, Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas. Notable markets within those states include Tijuana, Monterrey, Ciudad Juarez, Saltillo and Nuevo Laredo. As a result of the transition, Movistar has increased its 4G population coverage from 50% to 60%. Going forward, customers in La Paz, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Tepic, Salamanca and Oaxaca will receive 4G access for the first time later this year. By end-2021 Movistar expects to offer 4G in 83 major markets, covering 67% of its user base.
