Viasat launches residential broadband service in Brazil

Viasat has launched a new satellite-powered broadband service for residential customers in Brazil. The new service uses bandwidth from the Telebras SGDC-1 satellite and has gone live in eight states, namely: Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Pemambuco, Parana, Rio Grande do Sul, Federal District and Amazonas. The service will be rolled out across the country this year, with an end-2020 target date. Following the completion of the rollout, Viasat expects to be the only satellite ISP in the country capable of delivering broadband to 100% of the country. The new service supports download speeds of up to 20Mbps and includes a maximum monthly data allowance of 80GB.
