The Ecuadorian government has announced further details of its new "Digital Ecuador" strategy at an event in Quito, including plans to allocate 3.5GHz spectrum next year to pave the way for 5G, reports business daily El Comercio. The aim is to boost investment, cut mobile data prices and expand coverage by increasing spectrum use from 26 to 65 percent, said Minister for Telecommunications and the Information Society, Andres Michelena, adding that the government is on course to award frequencies in the 700MHz and 2.5GHz bands before the end of this year to continue extending 4G coverage.
