Chile launches Asia-South America undersea cable feasibility tender

Chile's telecommunications watchdog Subtel and Transport and Telecommunications Ministry MTT have launched a tender funded by Latin American development bank CAF to conduct a feasibility study on a proposal to build an undersea fiber-optic cable between the Asian and South American continents. The so-called "Puerta Digital Asia-South America" project envisages rolling out 24,000 km of cabling with a throughput capacity of 10-20 Tbps over 4-8 pairs at a cost of around US$ 650 million.
