The Bowers Museum of Cultural Art in Santa Ana, California, is currently running an exhibit entitled Gemstone Carvings: The Masterworks of Harold Van Pelt The exhibit will run through January 3, 2011. Along with his wife, Erica, Harold Van Pelt is widely known as one of the best gem and mineral photographers in the world, though few also know that he is also an extraordinary fine art gemstone carver. This exhibit represents the first comprehensive exhibition of carvings, and shows his complete body of work. For more than 35 years, Van Pelt has transforming quartz, rock crystal, and agate into astonishing sculpture.
