Working with animal skins is very exciting because of the available colors and textures (natural or manmade) from cow, goat, lamb, buffalo, and more exotics like alligator, stingray, lizard, and snake. Exotic skins can be simulated with a manufacturer's embossing techniques. The list can be extensive of skins to work with. There is a great deal to learn about leather types and characteristics, a result of the animal it came from and how it was processed in the tannery. While there may be guidelines for applications, experimenting with the medium will be the best teacher.
