Polyaniline (PANI) hollow nanospheres withncontrollable incontinuous nanocavities ranging in size from 10nto 50 nm as a novel hollow nanostructure have beennsuccessfully fabricated by chemical polymerization of anilinenwith chloroaurate acid as the oxidant and citric acid as thendoping acid. Experimental factors, such as concentration andnkind of oxidant and doping acid, were investigated to illustratentheir effect on morphology of PANI. According tonexperimental results and time-dependent investigations, anpossible formation mechanism involved was then proposed.nThe adaptability of this route to hollow nanostructures withnmulticavities of other conducting polymer was also revealed. Furthermore, the adsorption properties of PANI hollownnanospheres toward lead ions in water were investigated.
