Adaptive Management Solutions In Wetland Mitigation

Wetland mitigation design is as much art as science. After completing soil characterization studies, water budgets and plant species selections, designers still have to contend with unpredictable hydrogeologic, biotic, and climat-alogical factors. And it is these factors that will ultimately determine the success or failure of a par-ticular wetland mitigation site. When unexpected problems arise during or after wetland construction, designers often utilize a process known as adaptive management. Simply stated, adaptive management means evaluating a project as it progresses, and developing real-time corrective actions when necessary.
