Cambridge's Alewife Reservation Naturally Processes Stormwater

The 120-acre Alewife Reservation in Cambridge, Massachusetts has been a natural 'urban wild' resource-home to hundreds of animals, birds and plants-for over 120 years. Now, this historic natural resource is taking on a much greater role to protect vital environmental resources well beyond its borders. Through the $26.4 million stormwater outfall and Alewife Stormwater Wetland Project, the City of Cambridge and the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) have completed the construction of a 3,000 linear foot box culvert drainage system and 3.4-acre bioengineered systems-based wetland.
