Hatchery Creek Stream Restoration: A Unique Opportunity to Create Trout Habitat and Provide Mitigation Credits

Thanks to a great partnership between the Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife Resources (KDFWR), the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), and the US Army Corps of Engineers (US-ACE), Hatchery Creek is now a world class self-sustaining trout stream that runs more than 6,000 feet to the Cumberland River. So how was this feat accomplished? The short story involves extensive cooperation among many agencies, access to a new funding resource, and the hard work of a design/build partnership between agencies and private industry. The long story also includes a vision cast long ago for a unique design focused on maximizing trout habitat.
