The Walkers Landing Road case study-shows a cost effective solution to permanently restoring a slope failure and improving the aesthetics of a hillside along with restoring riparian habitat. The biotechnical slope stabilization techniques used help stabilize the surface soil layer of the site by addressing surface erosion. The vegetated soil wraps at the top and bottom of the slope assisted in stabilizing the site by providing a deep root mass. The live pole drain system directed surface and seepage water to the toe of the slope. Live stakes placed near the terminus of the landslide experienced a high mortality due to the debris pile which had a convex shape and was therefore more susceptible to drought. The seedlings and legumes provided deep-rooted nitrogen fixing species. Good growth rates on this site were attributed to a long soaking period of the live cuttings prior to installation and to the use of organic soil amendments including local mycorrhiza fungus inoculation.]
