The EU's decision to extend the Brexit deadline to Halloween, which feels oddly appropriate (as of writing, the squabbling witches and warlocks presiding over the affair still can't decide on the cauldron's contents), has made things less frantic -allowing us to cover its possible impacts on the two-way radio industry. Philip Mason (on page 15) looks exclusively at this, and Simon Creasey's piece on distributors' challenges and priorities (page 9) also delves into it. While, as I mentioned in the last issue, many are convinced any effect will be slight, I'm concerned about the broader long-term impact in terms of the creation and growth of start-up businesses, which (I assume) help generate demand for two-way radios, the degree to which established end-users will expand and invest, and the potential for Brexit to lead to a brain drain when it comes to wireless comms research.
