摘要

After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the Russian Federation - the largest former Soviet republic, with a population of over 140 million - faced a difficult and protracted transition from the centrally-planned system to a market-based economy. In the mid-nineties, this shift was made manifest through a massive campaign of privatization, prompting substantial public and political debate. After 2000, when Vladimir Putin became president, a selection of additional reforms was also introduced, including tax reform and deregulation. And so change has come to Russia: sweeping amendments coupled with incremental socio-economic evolution.
