Delta Apparel has reported a net loss of $763,000 in its financial year 2014 second quarter report, with a 5% decline in basic segment sales. The company said this net loss, compared with an income of $1.6m for this period in the previous year, resulted from the unseasonably cold weather throughout the country and the weak retail environment prevailing for most of the quarter. Net sales of $114.5m were achieved for the second quarter, compared with $120.1m for the comparable period in 2013. Operating margins in the branded segment improved by 160 basis points from the prior March quarter, but these were more than offset by depressed margins in the basics segment.
