Colloidal injection molding of ceramics (CIMC), a new near-net-shape technique to fabricate high performance ceramic parts with complex shapes, has several distinct advantages over the traditional injection molding and the usual colloidal forming process. For example, in the CIMC process the pressure-induced solidification of suspension promote eliminating the green body inner stress, caused by the non-uniform temperature-induced gelation due to the temperature gradient. Based on the investigation of the origin and development of the flaws, we have developed new approaches to optimize the direct coagulation casting (DCC), gelcasting and CIMC processes, with which homogeneous inner stress-free ceramic green bodies can be successfully fabricated.
