THIS YEAR'S PROLONGED WET WEATHER MAY SERIOUSLY AFFECT THIS YEAR'S GRAPE CROP

The extreme wet weather may have a big effect on this year's grape crop. The months of unusually large amount of rainfall has caused grape downy mildew (a water mold) to reach epidemic levels in some vineyards in Kentucky and possibly throughout the Midwest according to a published report by Nicole Ward Gauthier, assistant professor of extension in the Plant Pathology Department at the University Of Kentucky College Of Agriculture. Growers must combine cultural and chemical practices to effectively manage downy mildew in grape vineyards.
