Trade Restrictions Pursuant to Multilateral Environmental Agreements: Developmental Implications for Developing Countries

Multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs) provide the regulatory framework of principles and policies for the protection of the global environment and for addressing international environmental problems. Many environmental issues, such as air and water pollution, are multinational in character and therefore cannot be effectively addressed through national policies alone. The increasing scope and development of the MEAs' framework underscores the need for international cooperation in such matters.
