New Tapestries for Stirling Castle

New Tapestries for Stirling Castle Ann Ruel abstract An exciting project is taking place at Stirling Castle, which is in the care of Historic Scotland. The aim is to create a contemporary interpretation of the seven medieval tapestries representing the Hunt of the Unicorn, to be hung in the Queen's Presence Chamber in the Royal Apartments at Stirling Castle. The weaving is to be done by weavers from West Dean Tapestry Studio. The first tapestry, The Unicorn in Captivity (the seventh in the series), has been woven in public in the room at Stirling where it will be hung, and was taken off the loom in November 2003. The second tapestry, The Start of the Hunt (number one of the series), is being woven at the West Dean Studio, and will be completed in the summer of 2004. Weaving will start at Stirling on a third Tapestry in March 2004, and funding being sought for the full series.
