Predictability and natural dyeing are not really comfortable bedfellows. There are just so many variables. Chemical reactions are taking place, fusing the dye molecules with the mordants and the fibres to be dyed. Random chemicals present in water and the plant-stuff affect the process as does heat, pH, timing, and a host of other factors, even different breed's fleeces can produce varying results. The only thing natural dyers can do is experiment, keep records and have some fun.
