Two Weft Distortion Effects in Plain Weave

While making some samples for the Circulation Department of the Victoria and Albert Museum, designed to show the many possibilities of plain weave, I tried out two weft distortion techniques which I thought might interest readers.rnThe first is illustrated in photograph A. It is a very simple idea and depends on a loom having an adjustable over-slung batten. Such a batten is supported on two pivots which move in grooves on the top of the loom's sideframes.
