Weaving Abstraction:Kuba Textiles & the Woven Art of Central Africa

This exhibition was a walk into a world where symbolism, pride and creativity were felt through meticulously created fabrics and baskets. The 140 pieces represented the immense artistic expressions that stemmed from the cultures of the ancient kingdoms of Central Africa. The Kuba Textiles are a unique blend of men's and women's work. The cloth, woven exclusively by men on an angled vertical loom, is created with individual strands of raffia beaten in plain weave into a warp also of raffia.
