Friday 25 April 2014 finally dawned, overcast but dry - a good sign. Almost immediately tick lists and reminders of numerous things to do crowded into my mind, each one vying with the other for prominence. This was it ... this was the day ... the 12th biennial Conference, so long in the planning, had finally arrived! It had been just over a year ago, when as a relatively new member of the North Cheshire Guild, I answered a GPC (General Purposes Committee) email in my inbox, seeking assistance to secure a suitable venue for the Manchester Conference. Living outside Manchester, I could easily check out venues and report back (so little did I know!) and so it was that I found myself at 9 o'clock on a cold March morning, waiting in the foyer of Chancellors Hotel to meet Dot Seddon for the first time.
