摘要

Focus on Music 2: Exploring the Musicality of Children and Young People with Retinopathy of Prematurity reports findings of a detailed survey of parents of children with retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). Authors Adam Ockelford and Christina Matawa sought to learn more about how children with ROP develop the aptitude for listening to and playing music in comparison to fully sighted children and other blind people. Their findings are given in relation to results from the first Focus on Music study, which was conducted a few years ago on children born with septo-optic dysplasia and a comparison group of sighted individuals. In addition, the authors reference a 1988 study Ockelford conducted on 50 blind students he had taught at the Linden Lodge School, a specialized school for students with visual impairments or multiple disabilities in Wimbledon, London. Particularly because of the case studies included, not only other researchers but also teachers and parents of visually impaired children, music educators, and anyone with an interest in how the human brain works will enjoy this publication.
