Examination of Thermal Properties of Paraffin/Water Emulsion with Implications for Heat Transfer

摘要

Thermal properties of paraffin/water emulsions have been investigated using experimental methods. The thermal conductivity of paraffin/water emulsion samples with a variety of particle concentrations in the temperature range 25-75° C has been investigated by transient hot-wire method. Differential scanning calorimetry has been used to examine the latent heat and heat capacity of pure paraffin and different emulsions. At the phase-change temperature of the phase-change material (paraffin), an abrupt increase in the thermal conductivity diagram has been observed. The phase-change temperature of different emulsion samples has been derived by calorimetric curves. It has been shown that the obtained phase-change temperatures were in agreement with the sudden increase in thermal conductivity. It has been observed that the latent heat of the 20% sample was about 28.6 J/g, which is five times greater than that of water.
