Designing the User Interface: Strategies for Effective Human- Computer Interaction, 5th edition

I once read a statement by an anonymous user who sighed: "It is amazing how much Shneiderman manages to put in one book." And after reading the last edition (5th) of the Designing the User Interface, this could well be my review. But, it naturally needs to be at least a little longer and more comprehensive. How does one critically assess an "all time classic," which is appreciated by nearly anyone, whose authors have an abundance of experience, be it in research, practice, or teaching, and which has since 1986 been published in five editions, each reflecting the development in the area of interface design? My approach has been to try to pair it with the previous edition.
