Professor Ferrer-Roca and Dr Della Mea raise interesting points about our article on the use of camera phones in telehaematology.1 Our study was carried out in 2008 and focused on using camera phones and standard microscopes, because these items are readily available in most diagnostic haematology laboratories throughout the world. Indeed we anticipate improved quality images with high resolution camera phones, although for the 2008 study the minimum requirements for telehaematology were assessed. Our preliminary assessment of a limited range of camera phones indicated the suitability of using a 3.2 Mpixel camera phone for image acquisition, although this was not reported in the article.
