Don't expect to find this a superficial book about the attractions of tourism in Latin American and Caribbean destinations. This would be my first piece of advice for prospective readers. I would not recommend the reading of this book for relaxation and distraction; nor in your spare time on holiday, especially if you are in a third-world underdeveloped country.rnOn the contrary, this is a piece of work to be read with a critical spirit. If your mood allows, it will help you to reflect in depth on some tense and disagreeable situations related to tourism development and its impacts on the environment and local communities. Are you willing to face some of the negative effects of tourist investments? Are you prepared to open your eyes to what lies beyond the beautiful hotels, resorts and other tourist attractions in these countries? And, of course, it is much more valuable if you read it before choosing where to go for your next holiday and what type of tourism really appeals to you.
