Balancing Requirements of a Dynamically Tuned Gyroscope

摘要

In a dynamically tuned gyroscope(DTG), the gyro has to be dynamically tuned to make it function as a free rotor devoid of any kinematic constraints. In addition, the gyro has to balanced for spin axis-mass unbalance, 1-N balancing, 2-N balancing, dynamic balancing and spin noise reduction. These have to be done on the gimhal as well as on the rotor. It is necessary that during balancing, one should not affect the other. This paper brings out in detail, the various balancing requirements of a dynamically tuned gyroscope(DTG) and the innovative balancing techniques evolvedat the ISRO Inertial Systems Unit to meet the stringent requirements. The effect of these imbalances on the quality of performance is also discussed.
