Coevolution of organic substances and soils: links between soil forming processes and the stabilisation of organic substances

This issue of the Journal of Soils and Sediments contains eight papers presented at the workshop "Coevolution of soils and organic substances: links between soil forming processes and the stabilisation of organic substances" hosted by the University of Koblenz-Landau, Institute for Environmental Sciences, Department of Environmental and Soil Chemistry from 2 to 4 March 2011, with 65 participants, 18 oral and 14 poster presentations. Invited talks by Peter Buurman (University Wageningen), Claire Chenu (INRA Grignon), Ingrid Kogel-Knabner (TU Miinchen) and Joseph J. Pignatello (The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, New Haven, CT, USA) designated experts in the regarding fields of knowledge highlighted the state of the art and presented recent innovations. The workshop was organised by the commissions II, III, and VII of the German Soil Science Society (DBG) and the German Society of Chemistry (GDCh), working group Environmental Chemistry and Ecotoxicology.
