Conventionalizing US and Russian Strategic Nuclear Forces

US and Russian nuclear force reductions according to the requirements of the Moscow Treaty of 2002 will be important contributions to arms race and crisis stability. In addition, the two states might consider denuclearization or "conventionalization" of one or more parts of their forces remaining in 2012. Russia and the US might equip some parts of their retaliatory "triad" of land based, sea based, and airborne launchers with conventional munitions, especially those previously held on prompt alert with nuclear warheads.
